We are in the process of closing Longnor Players as an amateur dramatics organisation. It is more and more difficult to secure funding, comply with legislation and recruit both performers and crew that projects have become unfeasible. This decision has not been taken lightly, but senior members of LP were finding it hard to both commit to and justify the time required to produce a competent performance.
In order to facilitate a production we need to: agree on a script; purchase the rights to perform it; publicise the need for performers; audition performers and choose a cast; ensure sufficient personnel are available to oversee lighting, music, costumes etc; organise rehearsal space; appoint director/producer/musicians... and so on. For a rural community these requirements are so engrossing as to dominate ones life for a considerable time. We have managed to do it for some years but the demands on people's time and commitment are now too great.
The productions have proved invaluable to many children in the area and we should be proud of what we have acieved.
To all who I have worked and performed with, in both the easy and difficult times, many thanks.
